Why Family Photos Matter (Especially Right Here in Lakewood + Tacoma)

Hey there!

When’s the last time your family had photos taken together? And I don’t mean a quick phone picture at a birthday party — I mean real, intentional photos. The kind you’ll look back on and say, “Wow, remember how tiny their hands were?”

I truly believe family photos matter. Not because they're perfectly posed, but because they’re a little messy, a little chaotic, and totally yours.

Why I Love Family Sessions

It’s not about stiff smiles. It’s about those quick glances, the way your kid clings to your leg, or how the baby makes a weird face that only happens when they're about to giggle.
I want to capture the things you’ll miss one day.

Where to Go

We’ve got some amazing spots around Lakewood and Tacoma for family photos. A few of my go-to favorites:

  • Fort Steilacoom Park (Lakewood) — Wide open fields, tall trees, and room for kids to run.

  • Point Defiance Park (Tacoma) — Gorgeous year-round, with waterfront spots and flower gardens.

  • Ruston Way Waterfront — Perfect for sunset sessions.

If you have a family hangout you love, let’s meet there. I’m always down to explore.

What Should We Wear?

I get this question a lot — and I actually wrote a whole blog post breaking it down for you! It covers everything from colors that work well in the Pacific Northwest to simple outfit tips for the kids (and yes, what not to wear too).

👉 Check out my What to Wear guide here.

The short version? Be comfortable, be yourself, and avoid neon. The rest? I’ve got you covered.

Make It an Experience

Family photos should feel like an adventure, not a chore. Bring snacks for the kids, a favorite toy, or even your dog if you want them in the photos. We’ll run around, explore, and snap some great shots along the way.

The best photos happen when you’re just being yourselves.

These Photos Will Matter One Day

I get it — life’s busy, kids grow fast, and it feels like there’s never a good time. But trust me when I say, you’ll never regret having these moments saved.

One day, you’ll look back and be so glad you did this.

Because one day, these are the memories you’ll want to hold onto.

Let’s Book Your Session
